History
Greenwood Shores Baptist Church was organized in 1978. The first pastor was Rev. Morgan Kizer, who had retired from First Baptist Church of Ninety Six, SC. The church purchased a building which previously had served as a Methodist Church.
Due to the fact that Rev. Kizer served as interim pastor at several churches in the Abbeville Baptist Association following his retirement, Greenwood Shores began its worship services at 9:00am, followed by Sunday School. Rev. Kizer would preach at Greenwood Shores at 9:00am and then travel to another church in the association to preach at 11:00am.
Rev. Kizer served the church until 1990. Rev. Joseph Outz, who had also retired as a pastor in the association, became the pastor at Greenwood Shores. He served until 1995. In 1995, Lee Going, who was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church, became the pastor. At the request of Greenwood Shores, Rice Memorial Baptist Church ordained Lee to the Gospel Ministry. Lee served until 2013. In 2013, Sam Hawthorne became the current pastor of Greenwood Shores Baptist Church.
